Knock, knock. Who’s there?... OFFICIAL OPENING!

After a whole day of straining, the P&G Case Study as well as the BEST Team Design were successfully finished yesterday in the evening. There were no outcomes by now (strictly confidential data!), neither was there time to celebrate. Right after the end of the working day, all the participants and organisers proceeded to the Town Hall for the Official Opening.

The speech of Sas Van Rouveroij, Deputy Mayor of the Port and Innovation of the City of Ghent, underlined the importance of the European BEST Engineering Competition. He handed over some nice prizes to the main organisers - FNAC [1] coupons with a total value of €250. The gathered audience had also a pleasure to be addressed by the Dean of the Engineering Faculty of University of Ghent, Prof. dr. eng. Luc Taerwe.  He in turn emphasized the significance of the international dimension of the contest not only for the participants involved, but also for the University of Ghent. At the end there was time for Annelies De Beule and Stefaan Van Innis – event main organisers to make their confessions. Though their effort to make EBEC happen is indescribable, they did their BEST to summarize it.

After the speeches and the forthcoming reception, we all had a chance to enjoy the beautiful evening while being guided around the charming city of Ghent. A great culmination of the day was a visit to the tower of the University Library (64 m height). Admiring the view from the highest point of Ghent was a unique experience.

Today we are coming back to the competition’s reality: BEST case study, BEST Team Design testing and UNEP Team Design task introduction waiting for the finalists throughout the day…

Stay tuned!
