Autostrada Transilvania Project is
a four-lane, 415-kilometer motorway, stretching northwest from Brasov in central Romania, at an altitude of nearly 600 meters, reaching the country's border with Hungary at Oradea, in Campia Crisanei at 130 meters above sea level. The motorway will connect the cities of
Brasov, Fagaras, Sighisoara, Targu Mures, Cluj-Napoca, Zalau and
Oradea.
The motorway will be sponsored and owned by the Government of Romania, through the National Authority of Roads. The motorway is being built by American company Bechtel International, Inc. together with his regional partner Enka Insaat ve Sanayi A.S. of Turkey.
Project policy is aimed on maximizing Romanian content in staffing, purchasing and subcontracting. The Project is merging international experience with local knowledge by hiring, training, and learning from Romanian staff - in positions ranging from management to supervisors, operators and craft labor. The Project actively solicits subcontractor and supplier offers from Romanian companies, and helps suppliers and subcontractors understand and achieve the expectations of providing high quality services on time and within budget.
Safety is a matter of core importance for Bechtel. Under the slogan "Safety is everyone's responsibility", the Project implements a rigorous 'zero accidents' safety philosophy, which requires all staff to follow strict working procedures to create a safe working environment, ensuring all employees get home safely every day.
Close cooperation with local communities and organizations is the key to a successful completion of the Project. The Project also applies world-class sustainable development work practices, ensures effective protection of the environment and encourages the prudent use of natural resources.
